Between balancing a full-time job, blogging, and some sort semblance of a social life, it’s needless to say that I’m a busy girl. When I’m on-the-go, I’m always on my phone — scrolling through Instagram, IMing my friends on WhatsApp or Google Hangouts, responding to emails, and curating content for my website and social media channels. While it would be ideal to take a vacation from the busy world of being logged in 24/7, it’s not always realistic, so I’ve been using a couple smartphone apps that help me take care of myself in between work and play when I’m on the go… and it really has made my life.

#1 MyFitnessPal

You probably already know about this app, and if you don’t, you definitely need to get into it! MyFitnessPal is like your personal nutritionist on-the-go, where you can record the meals you’re eating on a daily basis, and the app makes recommendations for you in relation to the fitness goals you’ve set for yourself. It really helps me think twice whenever I’m about to reach for junk food and/or unnecessary snacks that I definitely didn’t need in the first place! I also recently got a smartwatch that integrates with MyFitnessPal, so I have a better idea of not just what I’m taking into my body… but what I’m putting out too through my workout sessions, walking, sleeping, etc. It’s a real game-changer, and it’s definitely motivated me to incorporate a lot more movement into my daily routine instead of allowing myself to get stuck in front of my computer screen for 8 hours straight every single day!

#2 Chick-Fil-A One

One of the things I used to be most guilty of, and probably one of the biggest factors that throws off my fitness goals, is grabbing unhealthy food and snacks while I’m on the go and not balancing it with healthier meal options. By pairing use of MyFitnessPal with the Chick-fil-A One app, I’ve started making more conscious choices by balancing what has become one of my favorite healthy items off their menu, the Market Salad, with their more indulgent menu items like the Frosted Coffee or Chicken Sandwich! The Chick-fil-A one app allows you to pre-order and skip the line to pick up your order as soon as you arrive at the restaurant — and if you live in Atlanta like I do, you know how great this is because the lunch lines at Chick Fil A are seriously no joke 🙂 You can download the free Chick-fil-A One app via the App Store or Google Play. An added bonus: simply by using the app, you can rack up rewards and get surprise free meal every now and then!

#3 TuneIn Radio

These days, everyone’s hopping on the music streaming service train, pledging their loyalty to Spotify or Tidal or Apple Music or… Pandora (if you’re stuck in 2008). I actually haven’t started a music streaming service because I’ve found one that works even better for me, and that’s the TuneIn Radio app. With TuneIn, you can literally tune in live to any radio station from ANYWHERE around the globe, and it’s such a great way to keep up with what’s trending outside your personal little bubble of existence. For me personally, having spent over 10 years of my life learning and speaking German, I love tuning into some of my favorite Berlin-based radio stations to keep my language skills up… and discovering some of my favorite summer tracks just comes as an extra bonus. Currently on repeat is this song that’s been heating Berlin 98.8 KISS FM’s airwaves!
