It’s been a while since I’ve last worn, bought or even thought twice about wearing anything leopard print… a REALLY long time. In fact, if I want to pinpoint the last leopard print thing I wore, it was probably during the height of my 90’s-era Spice Girls obsession, when my friends and I spent every birthday party and sleepover playing dress up, naively lip-syncing to 2 Become 1 in the mirror like we had any idea what the hell the song was about (I was always Mel B, of course).
Needless to say in the years between 3rd grade up until now, much like every other fashion trend, leopard print has cycled in and out of style. I, however, wouldn’t have been caught dead in the print, because to me it was so passé. I mean, hello! I’m an adult now, who wears leopard print anymore? Well, as of this season – ME, apparently!
Call it being bit by the fashion bug, or the ~influencereffect~ of Instagram… but all of a sudden, leopard print was everywhere, and I started finding myself double-tapping on those animal prints like there was no tomorrow. I knew I needed to re-introduce the print into my wardrobe this season, putting a 2018 spin on the iconic 90’s trend, and I was so excited to receive this gorgeous dress from L.K.Bennett in time for my NYFW trip. Leopard print is always best done in classic silhouettes, and this simple A-line silk dress (affordable ASOS option) was a great way to pull it off.
So… yeah. Every fashion girl is wearing leopard print this Fall, and I guess now I am too! Much like my love for a great 90’s playlist now and then, it’s always great to pull from your fashion archives and recreate your favorite looks from the past… because experimenting and having fun is what fashion is all about :)
