Somebody once said that Paris is always a good idea, and I couldn’t agree more. Even better is Paris during Fashion Week! I think Fall is the perfect time to explore the city, and I’m so grateful that I’ve been able to pop into to France to see some of the shows and presentations… never not working on making my visits happen more often! One of my favorite brands who’s shows I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing every year has been Marimekko… so I figured it’s about that that I share a little bit of the experience with you!
If you’re not familiar with Marimekko, here’s your quick introduction: founded in the 1940s, the Finnish brand is known for their iconic prints and fabrics. In a world where the Nordic style aesthetic is heralded for its minimalism, Marimekko is almost like a breath of fresh air — making a very strong statement with bold patterns in easy-to-wear silhouettes that are more than comfortable for the every day woman. You can see throughout the collection, that every piece juxtaposes strong prints with a free-flowing fit… you’ll always make a statement in Marimekko.
On Sunday morning, shortly after arriving in Paris, I headed over to the Musée des Arts Décoratifs to check out the new collection for myself. The fashion presentation was executed beautifully, as expected… and I loved how every piece really reflected the true aesthetic of the brand. The theme of the collection was Bold by Nature, and you can definitely see where the natural motifs of floral and leaf patterns met with strong punches of color and larger-than-life prints. While it was all about the Spring/Summer collection, Paris just a little too cold to dress for the occasion… so I opted for a simple look centered around this Marimekko tunic.
I’m always grateful to re-connect with brands that have supported me over the years, and Marimekko being one of them makes me feel extremely grateful to have the opportunity to get invited to their show every season. Lots more to come from my Paris trip soon… but in the meantime, if you haven’t already, check out the latest on YouTube where I did a quick recap of my time in New York from a couple weeks ago :) Hope you all have a happy Monday! x
