Hug It Out

coco's style8 years ago

The holiday season is heading right into full swing, and it’s the perfect time of the year to do some self-reflection: to think about how far we’ve come, how far we still have to go… and of course, if not more importantly, to remember the special people in our lives who make every single day a little bit brighter — no matter how far away they are from wherever it is that we consider to be “home”.

I have to admit — one of my worst habits is my attachment to my cell phone. I know that it’s not exactly an unusual habit to have, but I have my reasons for it, I promise! I would probably say that I spend 90% of my time on my phone texting or calling family, keeping in touch and sharing little tidbits throughout my day —  I grew up with 4 siblings, and they’ve always been my closest friends, so  staying in contact has always been a top priority for me.

Even though I don’t see my whole family as often as I’d like to, my phone is basically my connection to them. With my parents and older brother in Nigeria, my younger sister out on the west coast, and my younger brother in school, I can’t see them every single day, but my phone has been a godsend when it comes to keeping in touch.[/one_half]

Growing up, I spent a huge majority of my life in transit because of my parents’ jobs — moving from one country to another every 3 or 4 years, leaving friends behind and having to start all over again in a new place. Even today, I’m used to going month and years between seeing my closest family and friends, and a majority of the most important people in my life are physically separated from me in some sort of way, be it state lines, country borders or even entire oceans. As much as it sucked sometimes, one of the things I’m grateful for is the resilience and independence I’ve developed to make me the person I am today.

Even though I’ll be spending this holiday season while half of my family does the same across the Atlantic, as opposed to being together, there’s no better feeling than knowing that love is just a phone call away, and I have a strong network of people that spans across the globe

UGG Australia Classic Slim

I’m super excited to be a part of the launch of UGG® Australia’s new Classic Slim™ collection this week. These boots feature a slimmer, sleeker silhouette, that still delivers the comfort and warmth that the UGG® brand has always been known for. They’re definitely an upgrade from the classic silhouette that you probably recognize from a few years ago, and the more streamlined look of these boots actually make them the perfect touch to your outfit this Autumn and Winter!

My friends at UGG® Australia and I want YOU to join in on the fun and spread the love this holiday season, and here’s how: Grab your favorite pair of UGGs, take a picture with someone special in your life and upload it to Instagram with the hashtag #hugitout. Have fun with it, and make sure you tag @UGGAustralia in your post too — Happy ‘gramming!
